Made attach straps for corner ribs
July 30, 2014 – Another glorious couple of days in Texas—at the end of July!!??
I made the attach straps for the forward and aft ends of the F-623 corner ribs. It’s probably just me, but I couldn’t find a specific piece of material that the plans said I should make these from, so after an unnecessary amount of time spent searching, I found a large enough piece of scrap material of the same thickness to make these pieces. Cut them to the dimensions called for on the plans, then drilled one of the aft ones. TERRIBLE edge distance on the aft hole.
So I remade one to my preferred dimensions. This one will work fine. Below you can see it in place, and a picture of the original and the new shapes.
The forward one is a lot more straightforward. I had seen this mentioned on other blogs. The size per the plans encroaches on a neighboring rivet hole, so I just trimmed the edge to fit nicely. Again, here’s before and after:
I moved on to a 715 seat rib. This rib has to be fluted to follow a curve, I marked where the holes would be, then fluted the bottom flange until the edge followed the rivet line.
After reading the instructions and other people’s blogs, I decided to wait on these ribs until later on.
