Prepared wing skins for dimpling

November 3, 2010 – I am getting the left wing skins ready to dimple. I started by using the soldering iron to remove the protective plastic film from the outside of each wing skin panel. I used a yardstick to try to get a nice clean line for each line of rivets. Then just pull off the film, and you’re done. I removed the film from the backside (interior) of the panels entirely, since they will be scuffed and primed anyway.

I want to alodine the inner surfaces, and I don’t have the weather to do that right now, so I just deburred the left wing walk doubler and went ahead and dimpled it. This part will be painted on both sides.
